A rebar, or “reinforcing bar,” is a type of steel reinforcement that is used to fortify and bond the concrete in a compressed state. When concrete is compressed, it is sturdy but it lacks tensile strength. By adding a rebar, you are able to increase the concrete’s overall tensile strength, and patterned surfaces are generally included in order to assist the rebar’s ability to bond to the concrete.
